AL organizes briefing for diplomats

The Awami League’s International Affairs Sub-Committee today organized a ‘Diplomatic Briefing on Current Political Issues’ for foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations.

Over 50 diplomats and representatives, including ambassadors and high commissioners of several countries, were present at the briefing at a city hotel, according to BSS.

The diplomats were provided with dossiers containing information on Bangladesh’s impressive socio-economic development under the successive Awami League governments led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also information on the misdeeds of BNP and its ally Jamaat.

From the Awami League side, the briefing was conducted by the Presidium Member Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan, Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Sub-Committee Chairman Ambassador Mohammad Jamir, International Affairs Secretary Dr Shammi Ahmed and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam.

Other members of the sub-committee present included Razee Fakhrul MP, Habibe Millat MP, Barrister Shah Ali Farhad and Faiyazul Huq Razu.

The briefing was organized to introduce the newly constituted international affairs sub-committee to the diplomats and also discuss various issues of contemporary political significance in Bangladesh, including elections and democracy, rule of law and human rights, international relations of the party and the Rohingyas crisis.

The Awami League leaders requested Russia, China and India to play an even more robust role in ensuring a swift resolution to the Rohingya crisis and the safe and dignified return of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in Rakhine state of Myanmar.

According to Shah Ali Farhad, the diplomats applauded the way the briefing was planned as the event gave ways to both the diplomats and the Awami League leaders to share their own views.

AL will step up such efforts in the coming days to give added dynamism to the diplomatic and international efforts of Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina, he added.
