Anti-drug drive continues: 10 ‘drug traders’ killed in ‘gunfights’

Ten suspected drug traders were killed in reported incidents of ‘gunfight’ in Cumilla, Chattogram, Feni, Netrakona, Dinajpur, Chuadanga and Nilphamari early Tuesday as law enforcement agencies continued crackdown on drugs.

In Cumilla, two suspected drug traders were killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Bibirbazar Aronnopur area of the district around 12.45am. 

The deceased Sharif, 26, and Pear, 28, were top listed drug traders, claimed police. 

At least five people including Inspector Rupkumar were injured during the gunfight, said Mohammad Abu Salam Miah, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station.

Two round bullets, a revolver, a car, 50 kilograms of cannabis and 500 bottles Phensedyl were recovered from the spot.   

In Chattogram, Shukkur Ali, 43, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dobarpar area in the city around 2.30am.

In Chuadanga, Kamruzzaman Sadhu, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Alamdanga around 2:30am. Police recovered a home-made pistol, three round bullets and a sack of Phensedyl.

Sadhu was accused in six cases under Narcotics Control Act. He was sentenced to 3 years in jail in a case, said Abu Jihad, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station.

In Netrakona, Amzad, a suspected drug trader, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Barwari area of Medni union of sadar upazila around 2am.  

At that time, five members of police were also injured. 

Amzad was a professional killer and a drug trader. He was accuded in a thirteen cases, said Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Netrakona Model Police Station.More to follow...
