Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday celebrated the launching process of Bangabandhu-1 satellite, the country's first geostationary communication satellite which started its voyage towards the orbital slot from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, the USA, reports BSS.
DU family enjoyed the launching of the satellite on big projection screens at two places on the campus and celebrated the historical moment with amid festivity and fanfare.
DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, president of Dhaka University Teachers' Association Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, provosts of some residential halls, teachers and officials enjoyed the launching on big projection screens at Teachers-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium from 1:45 am.
Students were delighted while watching the launching of the nation's dream satellite, Bangabandhu-1, in the early hours of Friday on big projection screen at TSC premises.
The historic event of Bangladesh's debut in the space society took place at 2:14 am Bangladesh time.
Falcon 9, the finest rocket of American firm SpaceX, started to carry the satellite to the orbit from the Cape Canaveral launching pad at 4:14 pm US local time.
