Upazila chairman gunned down in Rangamati

A upazila chairman was gunned down and his assistant injured by unidentified miscreants in Rangamati on Thursday morning.

The deceased advocate Shaktiman Chakma was Naniachar upazila chairman and vice president of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS). 

His assistant Rupom Chakma, 35, was also injured in the attack, Superintendent of Police of Rangamati Alamgir Kabir confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Prashanta Chakma, Assistant General Secretary of PCJSS, said Shaktiman and Rupon came under the attack by UPDF men when they were on way to the Upazila Parishad. At that time, Shaktiman died on the spot and his Rupon sustained injuries. 

Denying the allegation, Niron Chakma, spokesperson of UPDF, said there was no involvement of UPFDF men in the attack.
