Khaleda’s treatment on specialist doctors’ advice: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said treatment is being given to imprisoned BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as per the advices and prescriptions of the specialist physicians, reports BSS.

“Begum Khaleda Zia is enjoying the highest facilities as per the jail code,” he told newsmen after a meeting with a BNP delegation at his ministry office here.

The minister said Begum Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various diseases including arthritis, spondylitis, high blood pressure and diabetes.

“We have taken her to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University Hospital and provided treatment followed by tests as per the advices of the doctors,” he said.

Kamal said the government is taking steps one after another following the specialist physicians’ advices for providing treatment to Begum Zia.

“Apart from this, she informed the jail authority about some doctors and we have taken measures for checking her state of health by the physicians of her choice, who have suggested some more tests," he said. 

During the meeting, he also informed the BNP leaders about Begum Zia's treatment and said, “we are doing our best and will do the same in future whatever is needed as per the jail code for her treatment.We will also decide to do anything more beyond the jail code, of course, in consultation with the doctors.”

BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and vice chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed met the home minister and urged for providing treatment to Begum Khaleda Zia at the United Hospital.

The minister also said that Begum Khaleda Zia, sometimes, is not willing to meet everyone, rather suggests to send her a list prior to anyone to visit her.
