Teachers of Dhaka University (DU) here on Sunday formed a human chain on the campus demanding measures to ensure adequate security for students.
Under the banner of “Conscious Teachers of Dhaka University”, a good number of teachers from various departments of joined the human chain held at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla, reports BSS.
The teachers placed other demands including ensuring adequate security for all the students and teachers on DU campus, not taking any action against anyone without legal procedure, trial of the perpetrators who attacked vice chancellor's residence in the early hours of 9th April, tightening security in the residential areas on DU campus, upholding the dignity of the DU teachers and students with protecting their personal privacy rights, keeping congenial atmosphere for the students on the campus with ensuring their freedom of expression and taking legal action against perpetrators of unexpected incidents during quota reform movement.
The teachers said students who were demonstrating for the quota reformation on Sunday called off their movement welcoming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's announcement to scrap the quota system in public service, but some problems have arisen after the movement.
Professor of DU law department Asif Nazrul, Professor of DU economics department Dr. Mahbubul Mokaddem, Columnist Abul Moksud, Dean of the faculty of engineering and technology Dr Md Hasanuzzaman, Professor of DU international relation department Dr Md Tanzimuddin Khan, Associate Professor of microbiology department Sangita Ahmed, Professor of political science department Dr Tasneem Arefa and teachers of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism-Professor Gitiara Nasreen, Robaet Ferdous, Abdur Razzaque Khan, Dr Fahmidul Haq, SM Shameem Reza and Marzia Rahman Shawlin, among others, were present at the programme.
