Signal one for river ports, thunderstorm likely

River ports of the country have been asked to follow local cautionary signal no one till 6 pm on Saturday.

The Met office predicted that rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary West/North-westerly gusty wind with a speed of 45-60 kilometer per hour (kph) may occur in different parts of Bangladesh.

The thunderstorms likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s bazar and Sylhet.

But, the Met office didn’t issue any Marine Warning for ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra.

At least six people were killed in different parts of the country in the thunderstorm and hailstorm on Friday.

In Sylhet, a passerby died when the tin roof of a house collapsed while a child drowned during the onslaught on Friday.

Two died in Magura and Dinajpur after being hit by hailstones.

Two women were electrocuted and another was injured after a live electric wire fell over them in Jessore.

People said never before had they seen such big hailstones pouring down from the sky.
