The High Court has summoned seven people including district civil surgeon in the incident of severing a baby’s head off during a cesarean operation at Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
An HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque came up with the order following the reports over the incident were published in two vernacular dailies.
Besides, the court issued a suo moto rule asking accused to appear before it on April 4 next to explain why the action will not be taken against them.
Director of Comilla Medical College, Comilla district civil surgeon, Head of gynecologist department of CMCH Dr. Karuna Rani Karmakar, Dr. Nasrin Akter Popy, Dr. Janibul Hoauq, Dr. Dilruba Sharmin and Dr Ayesha Afroze were made respondents to the rule.

According to the reports, Julekha Begum, 30, wife of Shafiq Kazi of Muradnagar upazila, was admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital with labour pain on March 17.
A five-member medical team, led by Dr Karuna Rani, conducted the C-section on the woman on the following day.
The physicians severed the head of the baby and cut off the uterus of Julekha during the operation, claimed Shafique.
However, the authorities concerned of the hospital said they cut off the head of baby and uterus of the woman for saving the life of the patient
