The bodies of 23 Bangladeshi who were killed in the US-Bangla aircraft crash returned home from Nepal in a special flight on Monday.
Kamrul Islam, general manager (public relations) of the US-Bangla Airlines confirmed it to Jago News.
He said that a cargo plane of Bangladesh Air Forces carrying the dead bodies landed at the Shahjalal International Airport 3:55 pm.
The identified 23 bodies are Akhi Moni, Begum Nurunnahar, Sharmin Aktar, Nazia Afrin, FH Priok, Umme Slama, Bilkis Ara, Akhtara Begum, Md Rokibul Hassan, Md, Hassan Imam, Minhaz Bin Naseer, Tamara Prinmoyee, Md Motiur Rahman, SM Mahmudur Rahman, Tahara Tanveen Sashi Reza, Oniruddho zaman, Rafiquzzaman, Pilot Abid Sultan, Co-pilot Prithula Rashid, Khaza Saifullah, Faisal, Sanzida and Nurizzaman.
Twenty-six Bangladeshis were killed in the crash. Identifications of 23 of them have been established while three others are still undergoing the process.
Forty-nine people lost their lives on March 12 when a plane carrying 71 persons including four crew members crashed on “abnormal” landing at TIA the third deadliest aviation accident involving an international carrier in Nepal.
Twenty-two people, including 11 Nepalis, survived the crash. They have been admitted to different hospitals, Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Manoj Neupane said. Of the total passengers, 33 were Nepalis, 32 Bangladeshis, one Chinese and one from the Maldives.
This was the third deadliest crash since the twin aviation disaster in 1992—Thai Airways International in July 31 and Pakistan International Airlines in September 28—crashed into a mountain while attempting to land at TIA, killing all together 280 people aboard.
