Death sentence to three Noakhali war criminals

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today sentenced three war criminals from Sudharam, Noakhali, to death and another to 20-year imprisonment for committing monstrous crimes against humanity in 1971.

A three-member tribunal bench headed by Justice Md. Shahinur Islam passed the order this morning as the charges brought against the criminals were proved beyond any reasonable doubt, reports BSS.

The three condemned convicts are Amir Ali, Md Joynal Abedin and Abul Kalam alias AKM Monsur. Md Abdul Kuddus was sentenced to suffer 20-year behind the bars. Of the four, Monsur is on the run.

The tribunal like earlier order asked the ministry of home affairs and inspector general of police to take appropriate steps to ensure the absconding convict face the justice.

Yesterday, the ICT-1 set today to pass judgment in the case. The first tribunal on February 6 concluded hearing of the case, saying it would pronounce judgment of the trial any day.

There was another accused in the case. But the accused Md Eusuf, 70, died of cardiac arrest on May 19, 2016, and his name was dropped from the case.

The ICT on June 20, 2016, framed three charges against the accused.
