Tofail for building united resistance against BNP

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed has urged people to build united resistance against BNP as this party was involved in looting and repressive activities when it was in power in 2001.

"People did not forget the torture and repression BNP carried out after coming to power in 2001. It will do so if it gets scope again," said the Awami League (AL) advisory committee member while speaking at a programme of party's new membership enrollment here on Sunday.

Union AL president Salam Master chaired the programme held at district council while chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, upazila parishad chairman Mosharraf Hossain, upazila AL general secretary Nazrul Islam Golder and AL leaders Zahirul Islam and Moinul Hossain, among others, spoke at the programme.

Tofail said Khaleda Zia formed alliance with war criminals and made anti-liberation elements ministers. But now she is in jail in connection with a corruption case as court sentenced her to imprisonment, he added.

Earlier, the commerce minister attended the biennial council of West Elisha and East Elisha union unit of Sramik League here, reports BSS.

Speaking on the occasion Tofail Ahmed said Bangladesh is advancing fast under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave the nation independence and her daughter has turned the country into a development role model.

Tofail said a project involving Tk. 465 crore has been taken to turn all mud roads into concrete ones of the district. A move is underway to sink 500 tube wells in 13 unions of sadar upazila to ensure supply of pure drinking water for the local people, he added.
