Police on Sunday seized passports of thirty eight foreign nationals for working illegally at Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Confirming the news, additional police super (Ukhia-Teknaf Circle) Chailau Marma told Jago News that passports from 38 foreign nationals were seized in a check-post at Malvitapara of Ukhia as they couldn't show any valid document in favour of their work.
We’ve information that some foreign nationals came to Bangladesh on tourists or business visa. But, later, they took job in different NGOs in Bangladesh illegally, said the police official.
Seized passport holder were serving without work permit in different foreign NGOs in Bangladesh including Hope foundation, Save the Children, Turkey MFS, Norway Christian Aid, Relif International, ACT Indonesia, Denis Council, FH International and Marks Internationals.
Afruzul Haq Tutul, additional superintendent of Cox's Bazar Police said that they entered Bangladesh with tourist or business visa and didn’t have permission to work in the country.
They are working illegally. We didn’t detain them yet as they have validity for living in Bangladesh for next two years. We are contacting with related NGOs for taking necessary measures, he added.
The police officials further said that they were warned for the first time. If they fail to get their work permit, legal action will be taken against them.
