HC order on Khaleda’s bail plea today

The High Court (HC) on Sunday adjourned passing order till Monday on bail plea of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft trial as the case records are yet to reach from the concerned lower court, reports BSS.

"Not today," said the High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim this morning.

Concerned lawyers said the court would pass order on the bail plea after lunch break on Monday.

Earlier on March 8, the High Court set today for passing its order on a bail plea submitted for Khaleda Zia, who is now in jail after been convicted in the case.

The High Court on February 22 asked Dhaka Special Judge Court-5, which convicted Khaleda Zia and five others in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, to send the case records within 15 days.

The trial court on February 8 sentenced Khaleda Zia to five-year imprisonment. It also sentenced other five accused, including Khaleda's elder son and BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, to 10-year imprisonment each.

The other accused are former lawmaker Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, and Khaleda's nephew Mominur Rahman.

The court also fined the convicts Taka 2.10 crore each for their role in the scam.
