Speaker, ministers mourn death of Ferdousi Priyabhashini

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today expressed profound shock at the death of noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini.

In a condolence message, the speaker recalled the outstanding contributions of Priyabhashini to the 1971 Liberation War. She said Ferdousi Priyabhashini played an important role from the forefront in all democratic movements and struggle of the country, reports BSS.

The speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In separate messages, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, JS Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip ASM Feroz also mourned the death of Priyabhashini.

Priyabhashini died of a cardiac arrest at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka this afternoon at the age of 70.

She suffered a massive cardiac arrest around 12.45 pm at the hospital where she was admitted on February 23 with kidney complications and orthopaedic problems, hospital sources said.

Priyabhashini was one of the victims of the Pakistani occupation forces that together with their local collaborators violated almost a quarter of a million Bangalee women.
