Eminent writer and educationalist professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal has been stabbed by miscreants at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology campus.
The incident took place at 5.30pm.
He was first admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital and then to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
"Prof Zafar Iqbal received injuries on the back part of his head," Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner (media) Abdul Wahab told newsmen.
SUST student Asif Ajhar, who witnessed the incident, said Iqbal came under attack just he was returning to ICT Bhaban of the campus after attending an academic festival of his Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) department in the university's central auditorium.
Iqbal is the head of the EEE department and a professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department at the SUST.
