Govt starts construction of 11 mosques next month

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman today said the construction of 11 mosques under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's priority project will begin by mid-March, 2018.

"The mosques are going to be built under the project titled 'Setting Up 560 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in District and Upazila Levels," he said at an evaluation meeting on the progress of the projects under the ministry for 2017-18 fiscal at the ministry's meeting room, BSS reported.

The minister informed the meeting that the estimated cost of the mosque construction project has been fixed at about Taka 8722.5 crore, said an official prelease here.

A four-storey mosque will be built at the district level while a three-storey mosque at the upazila level under the project, Matior Rahman said, adding that sites have already been selected and an administrative order has been given to start the construction work.

He said currently a total of 11 projects are being implemented under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Senior officials of the ministry, including its Secretary Md Anisur Rahman, attended in the meeting, among others.
