Taslima Nasrin tweets on Sridevi’s accidental death

Giving a dramatic twist to Sridevi's sudden death that has left the Bollywood fraternity as well as her fans across the world stunned, the Dubai government on Monday said that the Bollywood actress died of accidental drowning, not cardiac arrest, in her hotel bathtub.

The Dubai Police, on its official Twitter handle, said that they have transferred the case to the "Dubai Public Prosecution" which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases.

"Following the completion of post-mortem analysis, Dubai police headquarters on Monday stated that the death of the Indian actress Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment's bathtub following the loss of consciousness," the Dubai government's media office said on Twitter. The 54-year-old actor, known as Indian film industry's first woman superstar, died in a Dubai hotel room on Saturday night.

The Dubai-based Gulf News said in a report that the actor was under the influence of alcohol. She fell into the bathtub and drowned, it added. Stirring a controversy, author Taslima Nasreen on Monday took to micro-blogging platform Twitter and said: "Healthy adults don’t drown in bathtubs accidentally".

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh also added to the conspiracy theory when he said that Sridevi never consumed alcohol. "Sridevi ji did not drink hard liquor. She used to have wine sometimes like me and like so many others in public life. I have talked to Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Al Nahyan. He assured me that all formalities and reports are complete. Her mortal remains should reach India by midnight," Singh told ANI.

Sridevi's sudden death has stunned her family, friends, and fans. She had stayed back in Dubai after a family wedding.
