BNP to hold black flag procession Saturday

BNP will bring out black flag procession in Dhaka city on Saturday next as the authorities denied the party to hold a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan planned for Thursday next.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the information while addressing a press briefing at the party central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan on Wednesday.

He said: “We had taken all-out preparation to hold a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. And a delegation of the party also meet and requested police commissioner. But, the authority is dilly-dallying to give the permission.”

On the other hand, Suhrawardy Udyan authority told us that they will allow us to use the ground if the administration give permission, he added.

Earlier, Rizvi on last February 16 announced the February 22 programme at a press briefing at the party office.

He then told the rally will be held demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The fifth special judge’s court of Akhtaruzzaman on 8 February convicted Khaleda in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, sentencing her to five years in jail.

The authorities have kept her in the abandoned central jail at the Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
