The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stepped up security across the country especially at the Central Shaheed Minar and its surrounding areas for smooth and peaceful celebration of the Shaheed Day as well as the International Mother Language Day tomorrow.
"Special security measures have already been taken in all the shaheed minars especially in the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital to avert any untoward incidents," Director General (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed told media today at a press briefing after paying visit to the Central Shaheed Minar, BSS reported.
"We have taken security measures at the Central Shaheed Minar and its surrounding areas after dividing it into five sectors with deployment of RAB personnel in large numbers and installing an appropriate numbers of watch towers and closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs)," he also said.
"Swiping team, dog squad, bomb disposal unit, patrol teams of motorcycles, private cars and plain clothed RAB personnel have been relentlessly working to make the security foolproof," he said, adding that RAB personnel will work in coordination with others law enforcing agencies.
Asked about having any threat ahead of the Ekushey February, he said, "There is no specific threat ahead of the International Mother Language Day. But, the elaborate security arrangement has been taken keeping everything in the mind."
"The main task of the RAB is to combat militancy. But we will do everything which is necessary for the welfare of the country," he said while replying to another query.
