Khaleda files appeal with HC against verdict, hearing Thursday

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Tuesday filed appeal with the High Court (HC) challenging the five-year imprisonment awarded by a special court of Dhaka.

Khaleda’s lawyer Abdur Rezak Khan submitted the appeal to the concerned department of the HC.

Barrister Ehsanur Rahman, a member of BNP chief’s lawyer panel, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

The appeal would be heard by the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sahidul Karim on Thursday.

Earlier on Monday Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah received the certified copy of the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case verdict that sent the party’s Chairperson to jail.

On February 8, the Special Court-5 of Dhaka awarded five years imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Her elder son and BNP vice chairman Tarique Rahman and four others were given 10 years imprisonment in the case. The court, however, fined Tk. 2.10 crore each.
