BNP collects signatures for Khaleda’s release

Bangladesh Nationalist Party has begun its countrywide mass signature campaign demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the programme at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka around 11am on Saturday.

Standing Committee members of the party put their signatures on a form as part of the programme.

Leaders of the party Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, barrister Moudud Ahmed, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chodwdhury, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Shahid Uddin Chawdhury Anny, Afroza Abbas and Sammi Akher were also present the programme. 

A special court-5 in Dhaka convicted former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last. She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.
