BNP goes on hunger strike for Khaleda’s release

As part of its countrywide programs, the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is observing a six-hour hunger strike in the capital demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

The programme began at 10am in front of the National Press Club and it will be ended at 4pm on Wednesday.

The hunger strike is part of the BNP’s three-day programme which saw a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Monday and a sit-in in front of the party’s Naya Paltan office on Tuesday.

Several hundred leaders and activists, including party standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, joined the programme amid tight security by police.

On Thursday last, a special court here convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
