BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the present government is completely detached from the people and politically bankrupt.
He came up with the remark on Tuesday while addressing a sit-in programme demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaled Zia in front of party’s central office at Naya Paltan.
Fakhrul said: “Awami League has proved its political bankruptcy by filing false cases against Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and fifteen lakh BNP leaders and activists.”
Khaleda Zia was given a five-year jail in a false case and kept in the abandoned prison, he alleged adding that, they (AL) will be judged.”
BNP staged the programme as part of its countrywide pre-scheduled programme demanding unconditional release of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Leaders of BNP-led 20-party alliance also participated in the programme demanding the release of Khaleda Zia.
On Thursday last, a Dhaka special court sentenced Khaleda to five years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
