President M Abdul Hamid, who was reelected unopposed President for the second consecutive term, received the gazette notification on his reelection as a delegation of Election Commission (EC) called on him at Bangabhaban this evening, according to a news agency.
"The seven-member EC delegation formally handed over the Gazette containing that Abdul Hamid was elected as the 21st President of Bangladesh", President's Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS.
The delegation, led by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, also congratulated Abdul Hamid by presenting him a bouquet.
Earlier, the gazette notification over Abdul Hamid's reelection as the President was published this afternoon.
During the meeting, the President was apprised of overall activities of the EC by the delegation, the press secretary added.
On April 24, 2013, Abdul Hamid was sworn in as the 20th President of Bangladesh.
On January 25 last, the EC announced the schedule for the presidential polls setting February 5 for filing nominations. Only one nomination paper was submitted on behalf of Abdul Hamid from the ruling Awami League.
The EC had scheduled a voting for February 18, which however is not needed anymore.
