Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has joined office.
The Attorney General’s office and the Supreme Court Bar Association accorded reception to the new Chief Justice on Sunday morning.
He took oath as the new chief justice (CJ) of the country on Saturday. President Abdul Hamid administered the oath to him at Bangabhaban.
Mahmud Hossain was appointed chief justice barely three months after Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned from the post.
Hours after the announcement of the new CJ on Friday, Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior most judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court who had been carrying out the activities of chief justice, quit his post.
The post of the chief justice fell vacant when Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned on November 10 last year after he went on leave on health grounds in October.
