Bangladesh nationalist Party (BNP) has outlined a series of preconditions for taking part in the next upcoming national polls of the country.
The party chairperson Khaleda Zia came up with the conditions during the party national executive Committee’s daylong meeting at Hotel Le Meridien in Dhaka on Saturday.
She said people want change and the change will take place through the election.
The conditions of the party have been placed for a credible polls are-
1. The voting must be held under a neutral government
2. A conducive environment for voters must be ensured so that they can exercise their right to vote during the election
3. The parliament will have to be dissolved before the elections
4. The election Commission must work maintaining neutrality to ensure a free, fair and all-inclusive general election
5. Army must be deployed during the polls and it will act as a mobile force
6. EVM/ DVM machine could not be used for voting during the polls
After placing the conditions, Khaleda asked the participant executive committee members whether they agree or not to the conditions. In reply to her query, all members of the committee echoed their consent to the conditions.
Earlier, BNP’s National Executive Committee meeting began on 10am at Hotel Le Meridien in Dhaka on Saturday.
Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, Publicity Secretary of BNP, was conducted the meeting with the party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, in chair.
Khaleda had called the meeting on January 26, a day after a Dhaka court fixed February 8 for delivering verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
BNP formed its 502-member national executive committee on August 6, 2016 over four and a half months after its national council held on March 19.
As per the party’s constitution, the meeting of the executive committee should be held after every three months, but it could not hold any meeting over the last one and a half years.
