800 BNP men sued over prison van attack near HC

Two cases were filed on Tuesday night against 800 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) including Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in connection with the attack on policemen and vandalizing a prison van near the Kadam Foara crossing in front of the Supreme Court on January 30. 

SI Rohidul Islam and SI Chompok filed the two cases separately against BNP activists under the Special Powers Act with Ramna and Shahbagh Police Station for attack on a prison van and snatching two detained BNP men from it near High Court (HC) area of the capital.

Abul Hassan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, the member of BNP’s policymaking body National Standing Committee was already detained from Police Plaza area around 10pm on Tuesday.

Three policemen were injured on Tuesday while BNP activists vandalized a prison van and snatched two detained fellow men from it near High Court area of the capital.

The incident happened around 3:00pm when the motorcade of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia was crossing the area on way to her Gulshan home from a court in Bakshibazar, said witnesses.

Around an hour ago, police detained the two BNP men after several hundred leaders and activists of the party gathered in the area. The two were kept in the prison van in nearby Kadamfoara area.
