The newly-elected mayor and councillors of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) have taken their oaths.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday morning.
The Jatiya Party (JP)-backed candidate Mostafa defeated Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu of ruling Awami League (AL) in the polls held on December 21 last year.
Mostafa bagged 1,60,489 votes in 193 centres, his nearest constant Jhantu got 62,400 votes while BNP candidate Kawsar Zaman Babla secured 35,136 votes.
A total of 3,93,994 voters - 1,96,356 men and 1,97,638 women - were expected to exercise their voting right to elect a mayor, 33 ward councillors and 11 councillors to the reserved seats of women in 193 polling centres.
