An all-round performance came from Afif Hossain haul saw Bangladesh U-19 team recorded their second successive victory as they beat Canada by 66 runs in their C match of the ICC U-19 World Cup held today (Monday) at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.
Chasing a winning target of 265 runs set by Bangladesh, Canada found the chase stiff as they were bundled out for 198 in 43.3 overs.
Afif threatened early inroad on Canada's innings taking the first three wickets including top scorer Arslan Khan (64), Pranav Sharma (34) and Randhir Sandhu (11) and completed his five-wicket haul taking the remaining two wickets of Aran Pathmanathan (3) and Faisal Jamkhandi (0) conceding 43 runs from 10 overs.
The Canadian batsmen failed to build any effective partnership losing wickets in regular intervals in the face of tight bowling display by the young Tigers.
Middle order batsmen Kavian Naress (26) and Kevin Singh (24) were the other notable scorers for Canada.
Apart from Afif's five wickets haul, Hasan Mahmud bagged two wickets giving away 23 runs. Afif Ahmed was named the player of the match for his impressive all-round performance.
Earlier, put to bat first by Canada, Bangladesh, rode on Towhid Hridoy's magnificent century, scored a challenging total of 264 for 8 from their allotted 50 overs.
Touhid played a classy 122-run off 126-ball, an innings that studded with nine boundaries and one over boundary and during the process he also shared 111-run fourth wicket stand with Affi Hossain, who chipped away 50-run off 59-ball laced with five boundaries and a six.
Besides, opener Mohammad Niam (47) and Aminul Islam (19) were the other notable contributors for Bangladesh.
Faisal Jamkhandi was the pick of Canadian bowler as he grabbed five wickets conceding 48 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh got off to a winning start as they blew away Nepal in their tournament opening match held on Saturday. The young Tigers will meet their English counterparts in their third and last group encounter at the Queenstown Events Center in Queenstown on January 18.
