Cold wave death toll rises to 11 in Kurigram

The death toll caused by severe cold wave rises to eleven in Kurigram between January 1 and 8.

The deceased were identified as Sabiha (4 days), Amena (65), Jahanara (30), Khadiza (1 day), Meem (1year), Imrat (15 days), Noyonmoni (1 day), Jitia (2 months), Miraj (5 days), Majeda (1 day) and Sheuly. 

Most of the deceased were infants and elderly people who were suffering from cold-related complications. 

Dr. Anwarul Huq Pramanik, supervisor of Kurigram Sadar Hospital said that eleven people have died in the last week. Two of them were elderly people, suffering from heart-related disease and asthma problem, and the rest were infants who were succumbed to death due to Lucobit, Pneumonia and birth time complexity. 

According to sources, one hundred eighty patients have admitted to Kurigram Sadar Hospital till Tuesday who are suffering from cold-related complication. 

The bone-chilling weather added to the misery of the poor and disadvantaged people in the district with the sun remaining almost invisible for the last eight days. 

The temperature of the district recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Kurigram relief and rehabilitation office source said that fifty seven thoasands blankets were distributed among the poor and disadvantaged people in 9 upazila of the district.
