Police today banned use of sky lanterns popularly known as (Fanush) in Dhaka metropolitan area amid the risk of fire incidents from the lanterns.
"It is being seen recently that some people or organizations on different occasions or functions are releasing sky lanterns from different areas in Dhaka city. These lanterns, where kerosene is used for lighting, are falling down in burning condition, causing risk of fire and other security threats. These can cause big disaster anytime," a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release signed by Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah said, reports BSS.
"All the people concerned are being requested not to release sky lanterns in Dhaka metropolitan area or else necessary legal actions will be taken as per Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to ensure the security of the city dwellers," it added.
DMP has sought cooperation from all the city dwellers in this regard.
