There is no practice of democracy in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader came up with the remark while distributing blankets on Thursday among the city's poor people at Bangabandhu Avenue if front of the party’s central office,.
He said that the announcement of party mayoral candidate by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the by- election of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) proved that the party has no practice of democracy.
‘Today we have seen that Abdul Awal Mintoo, a central leader of the BNP, has announced name of his son Tabith Awal, as mayoral candidate in the upcoming DNCC polls’, Quader added.
He also said that the Awami League would not announce its candidate in this way but the local government nomination board will nominate a candidate for mayoral post.
Accusing Abdul Awal Mintoo of graft, Quader said, the family members of the Abdul Awal Mintoo were alleged to involve with the Paradise Paper graft scam.
The Dhaka South City unit organised the blanket distribution programme, where its president Abul Hasnat chaired.
The secretary of the social welfare and relief of the party Sujit Roy Nandi, general secretary of the Dhaka City south Shahe Alam Murad and others attended the programme.
