"I have nothing to lose, nothing to gain. I am modest but steadfast in principle. If someone thinks it as my weakness, it is wrong”, Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid came up with the remark while speaking at a press conference in the ministry on Wednesday.
Accusing media, he said, “My statement ('taking bribe at a reasonable level') on bribery is being published partially that triggering misunderstanding among the people”.
Speaking to the media, he said that the Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) was the most infested with corruption and malpractices among the departments in his ministry, when they took charge in 2009.
The scenario (of the ministry’s DIA) during the regime of ‘BNP-Jamaat’ was completely full of corruption, he added.
“Then (During BNP-Jamaat regime) DIA officers used to tell school authorities that they had to share the bribe money with the higher-ups. It was only natural for the people to assume that not only the inspectors were corrupted, but the bureaucrats and even me as the minister,” Minister said.
He demanded at press confrence that the DIA now is transparent and accountable.
TIB has done their job. I don’t want to comment or blame anyone, he said in response to the query of reporter over the demand of his resignation of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
