Google to alert you when it’s time to get off the bus or train

Google Maps on Android will provide you real-time guidance and push notifications when you’re approaching your stop during a trip. You can also track your progress while you’re riding, just like in driving, walking, or biking directions, reports ‘The Verge’.

Many people like to pass the time while riding a bus or train by doing something like listening to music, reading, or playing a game.

The problem is that sometimes you get so wrapped up in what you're doing that you forget to keep an eye out for your stop.

This new Google Maps feature will help you avoid that problem, giving you an alert when it's time to get off your bus or train.

This tiny-but-useful addition is something that some other navigation apps (like CityMapper) already do, and can go a long way in pulling you out of a podcast or Spotify haze so that you get off at the right place.

You can check out this new feature by going into Google Maps, typing your destination, selecting transit directions, and then choosing your preferred route.

Maps has always done turn-by-turn notifications for driving directions, but you’re naturally more attentive when behind the wheel.

It’s much easier for mass transit travelers to doze off or get distracted and miss their intended stop. Now, you’ll get a notification that’ll make staying on the train or bus too long less likely.
