Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque died at a hospital in Dhaka on Saturday morning at the age of 75.
He breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 8:40am, BSMMU Public Relations Officer Proshanto Kumar Karmakar confirmed the matter.
The minister got admitted to the BSMMU for treatment in September this year as he was suffering from old age complexities.
He left behind his wife, a son and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Sayedul Haque.
Sayedul Haque was the influential leader of Awami League and lawmaker of Nasirnagar constituency under Brahmanbaria-1.
The namaz-e-janaza of Sayedul Haque will be held on the premises of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 9:30am on Sunday.
Later, he will be buried at his village in Nasirnagar.
