Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam has been laid to rest after last rites and prayers at his ancestral home in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu here and a brief stop-over for “janaza prayer” at the nearby mosque on Thursday morning. The body was then brought out from the mosque by family members and placed on the cortege by personnel from armed forces for the final journey at 9.55 a.m. Thousands of people gathered to pay their final homage to the former president known as the ‘people’s president’ in India. A large number of people have poured in from neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.
