Seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No three as the deep depression over the west central bay and adjoining area moved north-northwestwards further over the same area.
It was centred at 6pm on Friday about 905 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 855 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 795 kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 785 kms south-southwest of Payra port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction, a Met office special bulletin said.
Under its influence, deep convection is taking place over the North Bay. Squally weather may affect the North Bay, coastal regions of Bangladesh and the maritime ports.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to take shelter immediately.
They have also been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
