Police arrest 24 more over Rangpur clash

Police arrested more 24 persons overnight in connection with the Friday's clash at Thakurtari village in the district raising the number of people to be custody to 124, officials said on Sunday.

“Police has gathered names and addresses of the identified people involved with planning and instigating the common people on the allegedly derogatory Facebook posting issue and all of them will be arrested soon,” special branch's additional superintendent of police ABM Zakir Hossain told BSS.

He said the 24 people were arrested last night as police investigations were underway on two cases filed over the incident.

Authorities earlier formed a three-member investigation committee with additional district magistrate Abu Rafa Md Arif as its chief.

Arif, meanwhile, said the committee gathered some “crucial” information indicating that “the derogatory posting on the Facebook might have been posted from a fake Facebook ID”.

“But the real culprit behind the posting could be unmasked on completion of police investigation,” he said.
