Awami League (AL) central committee and local administrations today distributed relief goods, corrugated tin (CI) sheets and cash money among 11 clash-affected families at Thakurtari village in the district, officials said.
A team of the AL central committee led by Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, visited the spot, talked to affected people, distributed Taka 55,000 cash money with Taka 5,000 to each family and supervised rehabilitation activities.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman told BSS this evening that the district administration through Sadar upazila administration already distributed Taka 3,000 and two bundles of CI sheets among each of the affected families.
Sadar upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby said the upazila administration provided more CI sheets in addition to those distributed from district administration for completing reconstruction of all 17 houses of all affected families.
“Besides, I along with Chairman of local Haridebpur union Iqbal Hossain, have taken steps to provide with three-times meals to all 35 members of the 11 affected families for three consecutive days from today,” Boby said.
In addition to this, Sadar upazila administration already distributed 40 blankets and has set up four tube wells and distributed 'flattened rice', 'puffed rice' and molasses among members of the affected families of Thakurtari village, she added.
Meanwhile, the three-member probe committee continues investigation into the clash as 53 persons were arrested so far in this connection, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) ABM Zakir Hossain told BSS this evening.
Earlier, the district administration formed the probe-committee with Additional District Magistrate Abu Rafa Md Rafikul Islam as its head and Additional Police Super (Circle-A) Saifur Rahman and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ziaur Rahman as members.
Police officials said one youth was killed and some 40 others, including policemen, were injured in the clash on Friday over an alleged face book post at Thakurtari village located on the juncture of Sadar, Gangachara and Taraganj upazilas in the district.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed said a temporary police camp has been set up in the village and additional police forces have been deployed to keep law and order situation under control.
Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman told local reporters that hectic efforts were on to nab all of the culprits involved with the clash and bring them under law of the land at the earliest possible time.
