Bangladesh U-19 team took 1-0 lead of the three-match one-dayer as they managed an exciting three-wickets victory over visiting Nepal U-19 team in the first one-dayer held on Thursday at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan ground in Savar.
Chasing a paltry winning target of 154 runs set by Nepal, Bangladesh surprisingly struggled to reach the meager target in 39 overs with only three wickets in hand.
Opener Naim Sheikh top scored for Bangladesh with 53 runs. Touhid Hridoy (48 n.o) and Kazi Anik Islam (18 n.o) added valuable 28runs unfinished partnership for the eight wicket to ensured Bangladesh's victory.
Sandeep Lamichhane was the most successful bowler for Nepal as he grabbed four Bangladesh wickets conceding 25 runs.
Earlier, put to bat first by Bangladesh, Nepal were restricted at a paltry total of 153 for 9 in stipulated 50 overs with opener Asif Sheikh Sheikh top scoring 32 runs followed by Bhim Shakri (28) and Pawan Sarraf (19).
Kazi Anik Islam and Hasan Mahmud shared three wickets each giving away 27 and 32 runs respectively. Nayeem Hasan supported them by chipping in with two wickets for 29 runs.
Kazi Anik Islam of Bangladesh was named the player of the match for his all round performances.
The second one-dayer between the two sides will be held on Saturday (November 4) at the same venue.
