The International Women’s Day is being observed in the country on Tuesday, as elsewhere across the globe. The motive behind observing this day is to provide information to the people about women rights and highlight their importance in the society.Various organizations, including the Women and Children Affairs Ministry, have chalked out various programs like rally, exhibition, discussion, procession and campaign to mark the day.Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have issued separate messages on the occasion. In the West, International Women’s Day was first observed as a popular event after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women`s rights and world peace.
