Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover opens to traffic

The much-awaited flyover connecting Moghbazar-Mouchak-Malibagh areas was opened for traffic movement and city dwellers on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the flyover through video conferencing from her official Gono Bhaban residence at 12.30pm.

The premier in March last year inaugurated the first phase of two-kilometre four-lane carriageway section of the flyover stretching from Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani near Holy Family Hospital to Saat Rasta intersection (Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Sarani).

The construction work on the project, which is jointly financed by Saudi Development Fund, OPEC Fund for International Development and the Bangladesh government, started in 2013 instead of the original schedule of 2011.

A total of Tk 1,218 crore has been spent on the construction of the flyover.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) first approved the project on 8 March 2011 involving Tk 772.70 crore. The expenditure of the project was increased on different occasions later.
