50 organisations nominated for Joy Bangla Youth Award 2017

The second Joy Bangla Youth Award-2017 will be given to 50 new youth organizations under three categories, including sports, culture and community development.

Prime Minister ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also the son of Sheikh Hasina, will hand over the awards through a gala function at Sheikh Hasina National Youth Centre at Gazipur. The award will be given to the winners through a two-day programme on October 20-21.

The announcement was made at a press conference held on Sunday at a restaurant in the capital.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu addressed the press conference with Sabbir Bin Shams, Executive Director of Centre for Research and Information (CRI) CRI, Nahim Razzaq, MP, CRI Associate Coordinator Tonmoy Ahmed, among others, spoke at the event.

Elaborating on the event schedule, Nasrul Hamid, also a trustee of CRI, said through a comprehensive search for over four and a half month, all the top 50 awardees were chosen and over 80 activation programmes were held at different parts of the country.

The award is introduced with a vision to identify, recognise, showcase, connect and support the champions of change with a special focus is laid out on scouting out the game-changers from remote and under-privileged parts of the country, he added.

On the first day of the ceremony, 100 youth representatives from different organisations, selected through a rigorous screening process, will take part in a number of grooming sessions while the launch of the award ceremony will also be announced.

On the other hand, the gala night that falls on October 21 will be preceded by the award giving ceremony in the evening.

A number of cultural personalities and sports youth icons will participate in the event too.

In the first edition, held in 2015, 30 individuals and organisations were awarded from over 1,500 applications for their outstanding works at the community level in areas of promoting youth employability, ending violence against women, child and adult education, and cultural activities.
