Stocks perform mixed on higher activities of banks

Stocks performed mixed on Tuesday with major indices finishing upward on higher activities of the banking sector despite lower transactions.

The banking sector was more active during the trade of the day as the top eight securities, out of 10, of the day were banks. BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by Lanka Bangla Finance, Exim Bank, Uttara Bank, Shahjalal Bank, Islami Bank, Aamra Net, NBL, Al Arafah Bank and Premier Bank.

The broader DSEX index at DSE closed the day with 12.92 points up at 6,141.81. The blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 7.34 points up at 2207. But the Shariah DSES closed the day with 1.46 points down at 1,347.79.

The trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 765.10 crore from Monday's Taka 967.84 crore and the trade volume fell to 24.01 crore from 31.88 crore shares of the last session.

At DSE, out of the day's 331 securities, prices of 106 securities closed higher against 188 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were BRAC Bank, Shahjalal Bank, United Insurance, Daffodil Computer and Intech. The major losing issues were ICBAGRANI1, Aamra Net, Fine Foods, EBLNRBMF and Asia Pacific Insurance. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 34.95 points up at 19,095.38.

At CSE, 246 issues were traded. Of those, 82 closed higher and 140 closed lower when 1.84 crore shares worth Taka 49.38 crore changed hands.
