A bank official allegedly tortured and injured his wife over dowry in Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur on May 4.
The victim was identified as Mehrun Nisa, 20, hailing from Ramganj in Laxmipur district and a primary school teacher of the area.
Rashed, brother of the victim said Sayed Al Mamun, son of Sayed Ahmed, hailing from Alipur village in Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur district and senior official of Brac Bank, Feni district, married Meherun 8 months back and started to live at a rented house in Dagonbhuyian.
Few months later of the marriage, Mamun started torturing Meherun for dowry. As a result, Meherun left Mamun’s house and started to live with her family in Ramganj.
On May 4, Mamun beat up Mehrun indiscriminately with pen, leaving her critically injured.
Being informed, family members of Mehrun rushed to Dagonbhuyia and rescued her.
She was immediately admitted to a local hospital.
Meanwhile, Mamun has sent a divorce letter to Mehrun.
When contacted, Mamun told Jago News that the allegations against him is totally baseless.
He said Mehrun has got an eye problem. When Mehrun goes out in the sun, she sees less her eye. They didn’t inform that issue during wedding.
“They cheated with me.” he added.
