Govt taking programmes to improve quality of education: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said the government has taken various programmes incorporating ICT to ensure quality of education.

"In a technology-based globalised world, quality education is crucial for any country. The government has realised the fact and executed its plans accordingly," he said while addressing the launching ceremony of Capacity Development for Education (CapED) Programme in Bangladesh in a city hotel.

UNESCO in cooperation with different government and non-government organisations arranged the programme.

Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md Alamgir, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Mohammad Asif-Uz-Zaman, Head and Representative of UNESCO Dhaka office Beatrice Kaldun, among others, addressed the function with Secretary and Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohorab Hossain in the chair.

Chief of Unit of UNESCO Astrid Gillet made a presentation on global CapED initiatives at the function.

Nahid said despite a number of challenges, Bangladesh has some remarkable and praiseworthy achievements in the education sector.

"Distribution of free textbook among the students of primary and secondary levels, increased enrolment rate and eradicating gender inequality in primary and secondary education have already been acknowledged in different international forums," he added.

"To maximize the benefit of using ICT in a classroom, we need a bunch of trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole process effective and successful," the minister said, adding the government is providing training to enhance the capacity of teachers.

Nahid said, "Formulation of the national education policy-2010 in order to build skilled and competent human resources through creating opportunities of enrolment in all levels of education is significant and positive pre-exist condition for Bangladesh when we are working of SDG-4 target."

He said, "We always encourage collaboration with different public and private bodies to build effective partnership to accomplish the journey of quality education."
