A Chittagong court today sentenced three members of the banned Islamic outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in two separate cases filed over hurling a bomb at a crowded courtroom in 2005.The court of Chittagong Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahdat Hossain Bhuiyan sentenced seven years of imprisonment to the then Chittagong regional commander of JMB Jabed Iqbal alias Mohammad, Jahidul Islam alias Mizan popularly known as Boma Mizan and Shahdat Hossain alias Masum Billah.The court also fined the convicts Taka 5,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in prison, reports BSS.Court sources said the trio hurled a bomb kept into a book at the crowded courtroom of the then Joint District Judge Sayed Dilger Hossain and Metropolitan Magistrate Akram Hossain on October 3, 2005.But, the bomb was not exploded and police with the help of locals caught Shahdat Hossain alias Masum Billah red handed.Later, Mohammad Moinuddin, the then officer-in-charge of Kotwali thana, filed two separate cases against them with the police station on the same day.Police submitted charge-sheet against them on May 8, 2006 while the court framed charges on 10 July, 2007.After examining a total of 22 witnesses out of 30, the court passed the verdict, said the court sources.
