The Rice traders assured that the prices of rice would decline from tomorrow as the government would resolve several problems related to the rice imports, reports BSS.Leaders of the Bangladesh Auto Major and Husking Mill Owners Association (BAMHMOA) after their meeting with several ministers on Tuesday told reporters that they had a good conversation with the government and assured that the prices of rice would start declining from tomorrow.They BAMHMOA leaders said this after their meeting with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Food Minister Quamrul Islam at the Bangladesh Secretariat.President of the association Abdur Rashid said, "We had a good meeting with the government and we assure that the prices of rice would go down by tomorrow." "The prices of rice will be reduced by Taka two to Taka three per kg from tomorrow," said the association secretary K M Layek Ali.Tofail Ahmed said the government would take effective measures along with the concerned ministries to remove the barriers. He said his ministry approved use of plastic sacks for importing, production and supply of rice instead of jute sacks for the next three months."None will impose barrier on importing rice in plastic sacks over the next three months. The use of plastic sacks has been allowed for two to three months. Anyway you can bring rice," he said.Besides, he added, steps will be taken to bring rice by railways through Rohanpur from India by discussing with the National Board of Revenue.Tofail said the government took a decision for importing rice from the end of last fiscal year as the flash floods damaged huge crops twice and the rice stock went down to the bottom line. Still, he added, the duty was reduced to two percent from 26 percent to encourage the private sector for rice import."There is no food crisis in the country while the food deficit caused by the natural disasters would be met through import of rice under the Government to Government (G to G) arrangements," the minister said.Among others, former Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzak rice importers, hoarders, wholesale and retail traders were present at the meeting.
