Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today extended her heartiest congratulations to Bangladesh cricket team for the first victory over Australia in test cricket.
"In a congratulatory message, Sheikh Hasina greeted all players, coach and officials of the national team and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials for the historic victory," premier's Press Secretary told newsmen, BSS reported.
Sheikh Hasina said the historic success is the outcome of proper patronage and support to the game by her government and recalled that Bangladesh earned the long-cherished Test status and one-day status during the 1996-2001 Awami League government.
Sheikh Hasina herself witnessed the final moments of the match at Mirpur Stadium when Tigers achieved the first ever historic test match victory against Australia taking a 1-0 lead in the two-test series.
The Tigers defeated Australia by 20 runs just after lunch on the fourth day of the First Test match.
She arrived in the stadium when Tigers was only two wickets away from the victory.
Flanked by President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Nazmul Hasan Papon and other senior officials she enjoyed the closing part of the match and encouraged the players waving the national flag from the VVIP gallery.
The Prime Minister hoped that the winning spree of the Bangladesh cricket team would continue in future and one day Bangladesh would win the world cup cricket.
