The dead body of the legendary actor Abdur Razzak, who died on Monday, was taken at central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday.
People from all walks of life paid tribute to his departed soul.
After holding a janaza at Azad mosque in Gulshan, he will be buried at Banani graveyard in the capital with state honour at 4pm.
However, Bangladesh Film Director’s Association and Bangladesh Cholochitro Shilpi Samiti suspended all kinds of shootings for three days to mourn the death of Razzak while popular cinema hall ‘Modhumita’ has been remained closed today.
The actor, populary known as Nayak Raj, was taken to United Hospital on Monday after he suffered a cardiac arrest where doctors declared him dead around 6:13pm as they found no pulse.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of the legendary actor.
Razzak, the founding president of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, was born on January 23 in 1942 at Nagtala in Taliganj of Kolkata.
He, however, moved to Dhaka along with his family in 1964. In Dhaka, he acted in TV plays initially.
Pioneering filmmaker Abdul Jabbar Khan helped Razzak join Iqbal Films Limited. Razzak was an assistant to director Kamal Ahmed in the movie ‘Ujala’.
Razzak’s major breakthrough came with his performance in movie of Salahuddin’s ‘Tero Nombor Feku Ostagar Lane’. He acted in other movies like Neel Akasher Nichey, Maynamati, Moner Moto Bou, Swaralipi, Osru Diye Likha, Jibon Theke Neya and Obujh Mon.
He acted in leading roles with many prominent actors, including Anwar Hossain, Bulbul Ahmed, Sohel Rana, Ilias Kanchan, Shuchanda, Shabana, Bobita, Kabori, Sujata, Shabnam and others. He appeared in a number of films opposite actress Shabana.
He went on to make more than 300 appearances in Bengali and Urdu movies. He also directed around sixteen movies.
